“We’re in a galaxy far, far away from the original Nutcracker where
we’ve made an entirely new story. There are no characters from
the original version – all the characters are nuts. A spacenut ship
with John the Nutband lands on planet Nutcracker. After a difficult
landing and what seems to be a dramatic encounter, the expedition
turns into a joyful discovery of the orchestra, the theater and the
balletic material of Tchaikovskys Nutcracker. The Nuts will make
cover versions and newly made choreographies to the original
score. Finally, they decide to plant some seeds and bring new life

John The Houseband are presenting the Nutcracker in a way you’ve never seen it before. This performance group from various parts of Europe, has picked apart and re-assembled the beloved christmas ballet into a humorous and energetic performance. Together with the Norrlandsoperan Symphony Orchestra, John the Houseband created a new version of the Nutcracker where tradition meets modern, pop meets classics and performance meets ballet – but without ballerinas.

Eine kreative Karambolage: mit John The Houseband trifft eine wundervoll unkonventionelle Band auf Tschaikowskis Der Nussknacker. In einer ganz eigenen Version des berühmten Ballettstückes wird die gewohnte Welt auf den Kopf gestellt. Auf ihrer Reise durch die Galaxie landen die sechs Protagonist*innen Hasel, Wal, Erd, Kokos, Mandel und Pistazie auf dem Planeten Nussknacker. Mit eindrucksvollem Ideenreichtum und begleitet von den Klängen Tschaikowskis erobern sie das unbekannte Terrain – es entspinnt sich ein außerirdisches, energiegeladenes Musical für die ganze Familie.
Aus Schweden, Island, Belgien, Spanien und Deutschland stammen die Choreograph*innen, Performer*innen und Künstler*innen, die sich 2008 in Amsterdam zu einem ungewöhnlichen Kunst- und Bandprojekt zusammenschlossen: mit John The Houseband war eine Kollaboration geboren, die charmant und gewitzt Performance und Konzert verbindet.
